DIY Wooden Christmas Presents

Christmas Idea #22 - DIY Wooden Christmas Presents

I am really liking these presents made from blocks of wood and scrapbook paper.  All you would need to do is Modge Podge scrapbook paper cut to size (edges inked if you you like that look...I do!) and tie some ribbon or tulle into a bow on top.  Simple decoration for your home or to give to someone as a gift.

Speaking of crafts, I saw this JUMBO JOY sign on Pinterest (without a link) and love the way it looks.  Simple and cute.  I'm not sure I would want to store something as big as that for the other 11 months of the year.  Maybe a small version would work instead.

I think the bigness of the Joy sign makes it so awesome. If you have a garage, hang two 2x4s to the ceiling - like an open shelf - and store the sign there. It will be out of the way most the year....

So, any idea how they made that JOY look old? How do you get the paint to look like that?

Do you have any suggestions on where to purchase these larger blocks of wood? Home Depot has some smaller sizes, but seem to be very pricey.

What I did was bought a 4x4 post of cedar at Menards and had them cut them down to 4, 6 and 8 inches. I also had a hard time trying to find the bigger blocks of wood that wasn't treated or expensive. Plus then the gifts don't get too big and they are actually a decent size. You cand get the post in 8 or 10 feet. I got the 10 foot so I can do gifts and enough for myself and roommate. Hope this helps!
